Concept
This is a promotional poster and logo that reflected the history of the Hell's Half Mile film festival and the location of the event. My poster was done with a rustic feeling in mind to reflect the purpose and history of the film festival in Bay City, Michigan. The blue and orange logo was provided by the team and was used for color references.

Project Rationale

The targeted demographic for this poster is 20-40 year olds. This demographic reflects the age group that would be most interested in what the event offers (underground arts and music, student films, etc.) as well as those most likely to attend an event that offers these things. A poster would function as one of the most effective ways to format the given information because posters can be placed in many locations where members of this demographic frequently visit in person. These areas include coffee shops, universities, and movie theaters among other things.

The function of the poster will be to offer information to viewers about the festival in an through implementing sans-serif typefaces for titles and dates in order to bring the reader in, and serif typefaces to offer readability for the longer sections of information. Eye-catching retro forest graphics will offer a clean, attractive background for the textual information it surrounds. All of these elements combined will set this poster apart from the rest.

The design elements implemented will consist mainly of contrast to highlight certain areas of information to convey a hierarchy of importance. The color palette will consist of reds, mustard yellows, greens, and browns to reflect the lumber and forest elements of the poster’s theme. Typographic choices will also reflect contrast through use of color to help the most important information (such as the title and dates of the event) from the background colors. The most important information, as stated before, will be in sans-serif fonts to contrast the serif font choices for the smaller, longer pieces of text. This difference will bring attention to the most important pieces of information for the viewer to glean from the poster as well as add interest to the composition as a whole.
