Project Rationale

In terms of typography, I wanted to create the feel of a more sophisticated and high-class brand look. I selected a serif font to put across this feeling, but decided to mix in a textured font to give it a more modern feel for fear that keeping all the fonts as serif would make the design look outdated and stuffy.

I chose to keep my color palette extremely limited in order to put the focus on the illustration of the artichoke on the front of the label and on the artichokes inside the clear jar. I thought that the use of primarily black and white would also add to the sophisticated look I was going for with lots of negative white space. This gave my packaging a classy look that would let it stand out in a shelf of other flashy, bright-colored competitor cans and jars. In designing the logo for Nature's Bounty, I decided to stick with simple forms and shapes and color palette for the same reasons.

The brand wanted a look that would help it stand out against the competition so I figured that going for a simpler design would actually help the product look more desirable to the common consumer. When it comes to food, the product should be the main element highlighted, so focusing on the natural round shape of the product and staying away from bright colors helped me achieve this dynamic. My marketing courses definitely aided with this project in keeping the customer perspective in mind throughout my design process.
