Project Rationale

In terms of typography, I created contrast by using a bold sans-serif font, Tempo, for my titles and subtitles, along with a sans-serif, Times, for any of my body text. This not only created contrast, but also hierarchy to help the reader get a good sense of what they should be reading first to gain the most information through the text.

The colors I used mixed bold and bright with calm and muted tones. All of the colors I used were taken right from the photos of fruits I used in my work (to show examples of antioxidants in the foods the reader’s eat). This was done to convey a natural, yet eye-catching feel for the brochures. Taking the colors right from the photos I included also created a sense of consistency and flow to ties one panel to another throughout the various layouts.

In terms of the shapes I used, I aimed to use geometric/rectangular and natural-looking/circular shapes to create contrast and points of interest in my work. I put an emphasis on the more circular shapes as a recurring image of the antioxidant molecule that is most prominent on the back panel where the contact information is located. These shapes convey a similar, natural or elemental feel since most of the information in the brochure is meant to give a lot of scientific explanation for the health benefits in antioxidants.
